Toenail Fungus Removal

What is Pinpointe?

Pinpointe is a new laser perfected for safely and effectively treating onychomycosis (toenail fungus). By targeting the fungus directly, Pinpointe gets to the source of the problem immediately.

How does Pinpointe work?

The Pinpointe laser sends tiny pulses of just the right frequency of light to pass through the toenail to the fungus underneath. The fungus is heated and neutralized without any damage to the surrounding nail or skin.

How long does the procedure take?

The Pinpointe laser procedure will take 20-30 minutes.

Is Pinpointe Laser Therapy painful?

There will be a slight warming sensation during the the procedure but no pain medication is needed. For most people, the treatment is very easy to tolerate.

How many treatments are needed?

A program of three treatments are necessary to achieve over 95% success.

Are there any post-procedure restrictions on activity?

None. Patients resume their normal activities immediately.

When will results be visible?

Nothing is visible immediately following treatment. However, as the nail grows out, the new nail growth will be clear. Toe nails infected with fungus grow slowly. It may take 6-18 months for the toenail to clear.

Does the toenail discolor or fall off?

No, the treatment will not cause discoloration or the nail to fall off.

Will the fungus come back?

A clear toenail may become reinfected with fungus. It may be acquired anywhere from your environment, for example, in damp areas such as public swimming pools. While treatments are ongoing, we suggest treating shoes with an ultraviolet light device that kills fungus. The office sells the device or will direct patients on how to find it.

When can I apply nail polish?

It is important to remove nail polish, prior to treatment but it can be reapplied 24 hours after treatment.

How does Pinpointe compare to other toenail fungus treatments?

Traditionally, toenail fungus removal has been treated by nail trimming, topical medicine, oral medicine or nail removal. These all have significant drawbacks: trimming doesn’t treat the fungus, topical medicines must be applied for 12 months and have a low success rate, oral medicines are taken for 3 months and can cause liver problems. Pinpointe is quick, easy, safe, and effective. The procedure treats the fungus at the source.

Does my health insurance cover toe fungus treatments?

All treatments for toe fungus are considered aesthetic procedures and not medical. Toe fungus treatments are not covered by insurance plans. However, they are affordable. For many patients, laser treatments cost less than prescription oral anti-fungal medicines and have no known side effects. We have several payment plans available.

Who will perform the laser toenail fungus treatment?

By state law, only doctors may perform medical laser treatments.  Our doctors are specially trained and experienced in the use of this new laser technology for the treatment of fungal nail disease.
